Frequently asked questions.

What is Element Contrast Studio?

Element is a wellness studio offering traditional sauna, cold plunge, and rest experiences designed to help you reset your mind and body. Our approach centers on a simple cycle: Heat → Cold → Rest → Repeat.

What should I expect on my first visit?

A staff member will give you a quick orientation, show you where everything is, and answer any questions. You’ll have access to two saunas, three cold plunges at different temperatures, showers, and dedicated rest areas. You’re welcome to explore at your own pace or ask for a recommended starting protocol.

How should I start if I’m new to sauna and cold plunge?

A simple beginner-friendly session looks like this:

  1. Heat for 10–15 minutes (no more than 20 minutes)

  2. Cold for 30 seconds to 2 minutes

  3. Rest for at least 5 minutes (up to 10–15 minutes is even better)

Always listen to your body— less is more, especially if this is your first time in the sauna or cold plunge.

Two full cycles is a perfect goal for your first visit. Rest is essential — it’s where the full “afterglow” occurs.

Should I start with cold or heat?

Both options are excellent.

  • Cold-first can help settle your nervous system and often makes it easier to stay in the sauna longer, maximizing heat’s benefits.

  • Heat-first makes the cold plunge feel easier, which many beginners prefer.

There is no single “right way” — choose what feels best for you.

How long should I stay in the cold plunge?

Most beginners start with 10–30 seconds.

If you feel calm and in control of your breath, you’re welcome to stay longer — but:

All core benefits of cold immersion occur by around 2 minutes.

There’s no need to stay in longer than that.

What temperatures are the saunas and cold plunges?

  • Silent Sauna: ~185°F (85°C)

  • Social Sauna: ~175°F (80°C)

  • Cold Plunge Tubs: Generally range from 60°F down to the mid-40s

Temperatures may vary slightly day to day.

Why does Element use dry Finnish saunas?

Element follows the model of traditional European thermal spas, where dry Finnish saunas are the foundation of heat therapy. Nearly all major scientific research on sauna benefits — for cardiovascular health, recovery, longevity, metabolism, and mood — is based on dry Finnish sauna use.

Dry heat also pairs exceptionally well with cold plunging. It warms the body evenly, allows for longer, more comfortable heat sessions, and makes the cold plunge feel more accessible — especially for beginners.

What should I wear?

Please wear appropriate swimwear, such as:

  • Swimsuits

  • Swim trunks

  • Swim-appropriate tops

  • Compression or athletic swim shorts

The following are not permitted:

  • Underwear

  • Street clothing

  • Transparent garments

  • Thongs

Do I need to bring anything?

You’re welcome to be barefoot but we recommend flip-flops or sandals for moving around the studio. No footwear is permitted inside the sauna.

We’ll provide you with two towels during your visit. Additional towels may be rented for $5.

Maybe bring a book to read while you’re relaxing in-between hot-cold cycles.

Do I need to shower before the cold plunge?

Yes.

A quick rinse (no soap necessary) helps keep the water clean for everyone.

What is the difference between the Silent Sauna and Social Sauna?

  • Silent Sauna: Hotter (around 185°F / 85°C) and fully quiet.

  • Social Sauna: Slightly cooler (around 175°F / 80°C) and allows soft conversation.

Can I lie down in the sauna?

Yes, if space allows and with your body completely on top of a towel.

Please be prepared to sit up if someone enters so there is room for everyone.

How many cycles should I do in a one-hour visit?

For most people, two full heat–cold–rest cycles is ideal for a first session.

You can adjust based on how your body feels.

Can I stay longer than my scheduled time?

Yes — if there’s space available, you can extend your visit.

If you are booked for 60 minutes, you may request an additional 30 minutes for $15.

All extensions must be arranged with the front desk so we can make sure there is room for guests who have reserved the next time block.

If you stay past your scheduled time without notifying the front desk, overage charges may apply:

• First 5 minutes: Grace period (no charge)

• After 5 minutes: $15 charge

• Every additional 15 minutes: Another $15

These guidelines help us keep the space calm, organized, and available for everyone who has booked a session.

Why is rest so important?

Rest allows your body to integrate the effects of heat and cold, stabilize your heart rate, and experience the full mental and physical benefits.

Most guests say rest is their favorite part.

Should I bring water?

We encourage you to stay hydrated and replenish electrolytes during your visit.

You may bring your own water bottle, and beverages are available for purchase.

How often should I come?

Consistency matters more than intensity.

Many guests come 1–4 times per week depending on their goals.

Why is Element a phone-free environment?

Because our space is designed to be a true reset. Keeping phones in lockers helps maintain a calm, distraction-free atmosphere for all guests.

It also protects guest privacy and security, ensuring no one has to worry about being photographed or filmed during their visit.

Are drop-ins acceptable?

Yes, drop-ins are welcome.

However, we strongly encourage reservations because space is limited to ensure a calm, uncrowded experience.

Where do I check in?

Check in at the front desk. We’ll set you up with a locker and show you everything you need to know.

Is Element co-ed?

Yes, unless otherwise indicated on the schedule, all sessions at Element are co-ed.

Are there age restrictions?

Yes, all guests must be 18 years of age or older.

Are there any health conditions that would prevent me from using the sauna or cold plunge?

If you have heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, are pregnant, have Raynaud’s, neuropathy (reduced temperature sensation), cold allergies, or other medical concerns, please consult your healthcare provider before visiting.

If you ever feel dizzy, faint, or unwell, exit the sauna or plunge immediately and rest.
